The Louisiana Sportsmen Alliance, LLC is considering litigation against the U.S. Forest Service due to a decision to ban hunting with dogs in the Kisatchie National Forest this hunting season.

LSC director Don Gohmert said his organization will re-file a complaint to include individual plaintiffs who have been hurt by the decision after he said the Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals “chided the USFS for neglecting to raise the standing issue until appeal.”

“We feel this is an attack on our hunting heritage, because our desire is to protect all hunters, whether or not they hunt with dogs,” Gohmert told The Times. “We believe it’s the beginning of erosion of hunting rights on Kisatchie.”

An attempt to contact the USFS forest supervisor on Monday was unsuccessful.

The 604,000 acres of Kisatchie winds through Grant, Natchitoches, Winn, Rapides, Vernon, Claiborne and Webster parishes. In the past, hunting with dogs has been allowed on 369,000 acres of the forest….
