WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) was recognized by the
National Shooting Sports Foundation with the “Defender of America’
Hunting Heritage” award for bringing attention to the misleading
fundraising tactics of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).
“I appreciate the National Shooting Sports Foundation for acknowledging
my work in the Senate to protect the interests of Oklahomans,” Inhofe
said. “I have been disappointed in the Humane Society of the United
States’ performance, especially as of late, where in my committee the
CEO, Wayne Pacelle, failed to be straight forward with the activities of
his organization. HSUS operates as if they are in the business of caring
for abandoned household pets, like dogs and cats, through local animal
shelters, yet a tiny fraction of its raised funds actually goes towards
their well-marked mission. In Oklahoma, HSUS raised over $1.7 million
dollars from advertisements that ran after the Moore tornadoes in 2013,
and only $110,000 went back to Oklahoma organizations. I am glad we are
making waves in exposing this organization’s true activist interests and
protecting hunting traditions that are practiced safely and enjoyed by
many in Oklahoma.”….
