COLORADO Becoming an avalanche dog

Since 1950, 275 people have died in avalanches in Colorado, and avalanche dogs and handlers practice to keep that number from increasing. Handlers train the dogs with hide-and-seek play sessions that are really teaching how to find people buried alive in snow — a situation that becomes deadly within 15 minutes.
