Minitablets: The solution for medicating finicky cats?

In order to make the notoriously difficult task of giving cats oral medication easier for owners and more palatable for cats, researcher Jaana Hautala evaluated flavor-coated minitablets. She found that cats preferred the minitablets to food the pets were known to dislike, and flavorings including amino acids and vitamin B showed promise for improved palatability.

Possible culprits in Oreo’s case included a new, scented litter material; a new food; and Dr. Solomon’s youngest son’s return to college.

Texas aquarium worker fashioned a device to support a client’s goldfish that developed flipover, also called swim bladder disease, and couldn’t keep itself upright. The device solved the problem, and the fish is swimming normally.

Home buyers consider pets in real estate decisions

US dog and cat owners want their next to home to be fit for their pets, according to a National Association of Realtors report, and it’s no surprise because 99% of pet owners surveyed said pets are considered family members, 89% would not surrender an animal due to housing restrictions, 12% had moved for their pet and 19% indicated they’d do so in the future. Realtors said one-third of pet owners won’t put an offer on a home if it’s not suitable for their animal, and many homeowners said they have made changes to their homes such as adding doggie doors, modifying flooring or placing fencing around the yard to accommodate pets.
