Denver Zoo veterinarian adapts feline chemo regimen for king cobra

After the keepers noticed changes in the Denver Zoo’s 18-year-old king cobra such as discoloration of its scales and weight loss, veterinarian Betsy Stringer diagnosed lymphosarcoma of the skin. With little published expertise to guide treatment and a potentially deadly patient to manage, Dr. Stringer devised and carefully implemented a chemotherapy regimen adapted from feline medicine, and it seems to be working: Blood markers are improving, and the snake has regained some lost weight.
