Animals go on rat patrol in US cities

Washington, D.C., neighborhoods are hoping feral cats will get burgeoning rat populations under control, while terriers and dachshunds patrol the streets of New York City in search of rats, and Chicago officials have struck an uneasy alliance with coyotes. The cats in D.C. are “hired” through Blue Collar Cats, which traps, neuters and vaccinates feral cats and releases them to neighborhoods and businesses that agree to provide food and shelter.
